This one was a fun challenge. The home in Meadowlakes sits right next to a golf course - and if you know anything about golf course living, you know the weather isn't the only thing coming at your roof. Between Texas hail storms and the occasional errant shot from next door, this homeowner needed something that could take a beating.

We went with a standing seam metal roof paired with TPO on the flat sections. That combination isn't something every roofer installs - it takes real planning to make sure both systems tie in correctly and seal up tight. Standing seam metal is about as tough as it gets for impact resistance. The raised seams mean there are no exposed fasteners to back out or leak over time, and the panels themselves can handle hail that would dent or crack an asphalt shingle roof without breaking a sweat.

The TPO handles the low-slope areas where water needs to drain slowly. It's a membrane system that bonds flat and stays flexible, so it doesn't crack under the temperature swings Texas is known for throwing at us. Getting the transition between the metal panels and the TPO membrane right is where a lot of the detail work lives - that's not a spot where you can cut corners.

The finished product is clean, durable, and honestly just looks sharp. The standing seam panels run ridge to eave in long straight lines with no interruptions - exactly how they should look when the install is done right. And for a homeowner backing up to the fairway, there's real peace of mind knowing a golf ball or a spring hailstorm isn't going to send them back to square one.

If you're in the Hill Country area and dealing with an aging roof or a roofline that needs a more durable solution, a standing seam metal system is worth a serious look. It costs more upfront than shingles, but it lasts significantly longer and holds up to the kind of punishment Texas weather - and apparently Texas golfers - can dish out.
