A Georgetown homeowner noticed a leak inside their home. No storm damage. No obvious missing shingles. Just water getting in from what seemed like nowhere. That's actually one of the trickier scenarios we run into - when the source of a leak isn't obvious from the ground and the roof itself looks fine at first glance.
Here's what we found when we got up there. Multiple H-clips had worked their way up through the underlayment and were pushing through the shingles from underneath. H-clips are small metal fasteners used during installation to support the roof decking panels. When they're not installed correctly, they can migrate over time - and eventually they create a puncture point right through your waterproofing layer. The leak ends up showing up inside in a spot that has nothing to do with where the actual penetration is, which makes it incredibly confusing to diagnose without knowing what to look for.
This is exactly why a thorough inspection matters. You can see the clips circled in the photos - one still poking through the underlayment, another that had already punched through the surface of the shingle itself. These are the kinds of details that get missed when someone does a quick visual from the ladder and calls it good. We walked the entire roof and identified every problem area before starting any work.
We were able to get the full repair done the same day. That's the goal on every job - find it fast, fix it right, and get the homeowner back to normal without dragging it out. Roof leaks don't wait, and neither should the fix.
If your roof is showing a leak and you can't figure out where it's coming from, that's a sign you need someone who knows what to look for. Improper H-clip installation is just one of several installation errors that can hide for years before they show up as water damage inside your home.
